GOING GREEN

The Pet Doctor is going GREEN!
We are working toward being a sustainable practice and have implemented the following:

· We recycle an average of 100 lbs per week of plastic, glass and paper.
· We send all medical wastes to a certified handler. We do not place any sharps into the landfills.
· We properly dispose of outdated medications through a certified reverse distributor. We do not put medications into the waste stream!
· We have calculated our average energy use at this site (electricity and natural gas) over the last 12 months.
· We have established an energy reduction goal of at least 10% of our annual energy usage.
· We have developed strategies to increase the efficiency of our heating, cooling, and ventilation system.
· We have a policy in place requiring all new equipment to meet ENERGY STAR rating standards.
· We reduced copier/printer power consumption by using standby mode after 15 minutes of non-use.
· We have designated our building or office space as smoke free.
· We have a No Idling Plan for loading zones and parking lots.
· We use Green Seal certified cleaners for cleaning supplies.
· We have conducted a waste stream audit which quantifies in either pounds or in cubic feet the amount of waste/trash.
· We have established a recycling policy for all office materials in coordination with our building's recycling provider.
· We utilize double sided copying.
· We circulate documents electronically and are a paper light practice with electronic medical records rather than paper records.
· We purchase 30-50% Post- Consumer Recycled Copier/Printer Paper.
· We stock reusable items such as real plates, mugs, water pitchers and silverware in our lunch/break room!

A day in the life....

We will be sharing the lives (and opinions..) of our hospital resident cats. Their names are Bart, Possum and Hopper. They think that life at The Pet Doctor revolves around them and they wanted to share their adventures with you.
Bart is a grey domestic shorthair cat. He originally came to The Pet Doctor as a tiny kitten. He had a badly broken rear leg and we originally thought he was going to lose his leg due to the extent of his injuries. He was named Black Bart the Pirate...since we thought he was going to have a peg leg, but he ended up healing well. The Bart part of the name stuck.
Possum came to us from All Paws Rescue. She was black with little white hairs all over and looked like she had a big giant head on a little bitty body. She kind of resembled a baby possum, so that became her name. She grew up to be a gorgeous tuxedo kitty.
Hopper has a neural tube defect and hops like a bunny when she runs. The name just stuck.
